Kinesiology tape is very different to traditional athletic tape. Instead of stabilising a joint, preventing excessive movement, kinesiology tape has an amazing stretch that acts like a layer of skin. The tape can stretch up to 180% of its original size, before ‘snapping back’ and recovering to its original state.
Kinesiology taping has been clinically shown to aid the natural response to inflammation (pain, heat, swelling, redness and limited range of movement). A biomechanical lifting mechanism is created when the kinesiology tape is applied, decompressing the superficial tissue underneath the skin allowing more blood to flow into the affected area which enhances recovery and repair. Kinesiology tape is water resistant, so it can be worn whilst swimming or in the shower and will last approximately five to seven days.
